Poetry Friday

Prof Pic
I love this poem.

Is your little bird singing loudly today?
My wish for you is that it is.

Hope is the Thing with Feathers
by Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
and on the strangest sea.
Yet, never, in extremity,
it asked a crumb of me.

It's one of my favorites, too.

Funny you should ask. Today it is raining here. Nay, not merely raining. It's coming down in droves. And an hour ago the rain patter was accompanied by a beautiful bird song: a pair of what I now know to be Carolina Wrens were at the feeder or, rather, one fed while the other sang. And if singing in rain that is wet enough to soak through the oil on your feathers isn't hopeful, I don't know what is.
