Another authorly first

Prof Pic
Most of the time, I like getting out of my office. I like meeting up with my writer friends, doing group events, attending signings. Let's face it, there are lots of fun things about being an author.

But I'm pretty sure, after my experience yesterday, I will *never* be excited about getting out of my office in order to do an interview for television. This was my first time, and I was nervous. Yes, I know, most people would be. And I did find some comfort in that. The whole way there, I told myself, just talk to Brooke like she's a friend, and forget about the camera. And for the most part, I think I did that. But it's hard to forget about it completely, you know?

Here is a picture of me and Brooke Carlson before the interview, taken by the very nice cameraman whose name escapes me now:

I wish I had gone shopping and gotten something new to wear. I think I would have felt more confident. But I hate shopping. And money is tight. So I made do with what I had. And then I had a bad hair day. And the wind and rain outside made it more so. And, and, and...

You know what? It's fine. It's fine!! I got to talk about my book on TV, and some people may learn about it that didn't know about it before. That's the important thing.

The owners of Cupcake Jones, Peter and Lisa, were super sweet and I got to walk around the kitchen and see the private staff bathroom that has stuff written on the walls I was "sworn to forget." I'd tell you what they said, but I can't seem to remember???

Oh, and they sent me home with these, which definitely helped soothe the pain of the experience!

Wait! You were interviewed for TV in a Cupcake shop? How cool is that!! If you find a link to the interview, post it!

Yes - for a local show called Better Portland. The show has national interest stories with two 3-minute local interest stories woven in. So the first 3 minutes was about the cupcake shop we were in, and the second 3 minutes was about my book! It may be posted, I'm not sure. If it is I'll post it. Maybe. If it's not too terrible. :)

You look beautiful in pink, Lisa - nothing to worry about there. And wow, that cupcake on the right makes me want to drive all the way to Oregon Right Now.

Thanks! :)

It's chocolate and peanut butter. My husband and oldest son shared that one!

Bad hair day?? I thought you had your hair done for sure.

Congrats on the interview!

Okay, if it doesn't look bad to the rest of you then, never mind! It didn't look that great to me, but actually, it never does, LOL, so... :)

Your hair looks great, and any day you get free cupcakes can't be all bad. :) I'm sure the interview sounds just fine.

Dude. If that is your BAD hair day then I am sooooo jealous. I think you look beautiful and I am so psyched you were on TV. xoxo

Well, we are our own worst critics, I suppose. I woke up thinking, please let me look like Christy Brinkley today. When that didn't happen, I guess it just all looked bad. :)

You looked beautiful, Lisa! and ya, I agree with everyone else, if that is bad hair day, you look pretty darn good!

So funny - I've just always had a difficult relationship with my hair!! But I guess if others think it looks good, then I need to shut up - ha!

Congratulations, Lisa! I'm sure you did great, and as always, you look gorgeous.

I don't know about great, BUT, I think it went okay. I hope! We'll see when it airs on Thursday!

But that petunia pink is SO your color! And I wouldn't have known your hair wasn't perfect. Looks good to me. Trying to be your real self with a TV camera in your face is a trial. Bet you did great!
Mar. 30th, 2010 10:03 pm (UTC)
Thanks Jill, we are just our own worst critics, aren't we? :)
Mar. 30th, 2010 10:00 pm (UTC)
It probably went better than you think it did. =D Congrats on making it through. I think you look lovely, by the way, so don't be hard on yourself (though we're always our own worst critic).

Those cupcakes look delish! Are they the S'mores and Grandma's Applesauce from the recipes in the back of the book?
Mar. 30th, 2010 10:02 pm (UTC)
Yes, we are always hardest on ourselves, aren't we?

No - we taped the interview at a cupcake shop, so they gave me a couple of cupcakes from their case. One is The Pearl, which is a very lovely vanilla, and the other is Peanut Butter Chocolate! :)

Ah! See, that's what I get for posting a comment before reading the other comments first. ;-)

They look delish! =D

You look great! I'm sure you sounded great, too. :-)

Thanks Jenn - I'm just hoping for "okay." We'll see tomorrow, when it airs!!
