Do not be afraid
by Lisa Schroeder

I tell you,
do not be afraid.
A glowing moon
is still a moon.

But you say, I don't know that moon.

I tell you,
do not be afraid.
A growing boy
is still a boy.

But you say, I don't know that boy.

You want the moon you know
and you want the boy you know,
for red is not becoming to the moon
and blue is not becoming to the boy.

When the darkness goes,
the moon will fade.
There will be light.

When the darkness goes,
the boy will fade.
A young man will stand.

Do not be afraid.
We always love the moon.
We always love the boy.

Poetry Friday - Spring!

Autumn was HERE

Winter was HERE

And now, what do you know, it's time for...

Spring
by Lisa Schroeder

Spring cleaning time
Dust everywhere
Open the Doors
Feel the fresh air
Spring is here, spring is here
For all to share.

Buds on the trees
Rain showers fall
Eggs in the nest
Ever so small
Spring is here, spring is here
Daffodils tall.

Baseball games played
When it is dry
Pitch the ball low
Smack it up high
Spring is here, spring is here
Clouds floating by.

I love this poem.

Is your little bird singing loudly today?
My wish for you is that it is.

Hope is the Thing with Feathers
by Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
and on the strangest sea.
Yet, never, in extremity,
it asked a crumb of me.

From a picture book on seasons that I wrote years ago. Since there are already a million picture books on seasons and this is probably an impossible sell, I'm sharing parts of it here at the appropriate times of the year. :)

Winter
by Lisa Schroeder

Cookies are baking
Games on the rug
Sipping hot cocoa
From a big mug
Winter time, winter time
Snug as a bug

Staying up late
Midnight is near
Noisemakers ready
For the New Year
Winter time, winter time
Friends and good cheer

Trees looking bare
Dreary and gray
Snow starts to fall
Kids rush to play
Winter time, winter time
Snow angel day

A Writer's Poem
by Lisa Schroeder

One word here
Two words there.
Words, words, words
everywhere.

Lots of words,
how to choose?
Some words win,
some words lose.

In the end
some will judge
the choice of words
and hold a grudge.

I fret, I fuss,
I want to cry.
It's so damn hard,
I wonder why?

Be my friends,
my little words.
Make me happy,
sing like birds!

We'll sing, they say
one day quite soon,
when the book is done
and you're over the MOON!
